BCCI Imposes New Guidelines for Team India Players, Restricts Family Stay on Overseas Tours

BCCI Imposes New Guidelines for Team India Players, Restricts Family Stay on Overseas Tours

In the wake of India's disappointing 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced stricter guidelines for players, particularly regarding family stays during overseas tours. As per the new rules, cricketers' wives and families will only be allowed to stay with them for a maximum of 14 days during a 45-day tour.

This decision was made following the recent Annual General Meeting of the BCCI. The move comes after several players, including Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, had their families with them throughout the Border-Gavaskar series, which led to concerns over distractions.

Tighter Regulations on Travel

Along with limiting the duration of family visits, the BCCI has also enforced a new travel policy. All team members will now be required to travel exclusively by the team bus during tours and will no longer be allowed to travel separately.

The Indian team recently lost the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy after holding it for 10 years, marking their second consecutive Test series defeat. Their first defeat was a 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home before the Australia tour.

Performance-Based Pay Structure Under Consideration

Additionally, the BCCI is reportedly considering the introduction of a performance-based pay structure for players. Last year, they implemented an incentive system for Test players, where those who played more than 50% of Tests in a season were given ₹30 lakh per game, with the payout increasing to ₹45 lakh for players involved in at least 75% of the matches in a season.

The new proposal aims to increase accountability among players. The BCCI plans to tie player earnings more closely to their performance, and a dip in form could lead to a pay cut. This move highlights the BCCI's effort to ensure that players maintain a high level of performance and commitment.
