Smriti Mandhana Smashes Fastest ODI Century for India Women, Creates History

Rajkot witnessed cricketing history on Wednesday as Smriti Mandhana, leading the Indian women's team without regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur, scored the fastest One-Day International (ODI) century by an Indian woman. Mandhana reached the milestone in just 70 balls during the third ODI against Ireland, showcasing her explosive batting prowess.

The Indian opener's breathtaking knock of 135 runs included 12 boundaries and seven towering sixes. Her remarkable innings came to an end when Orla Prendergast caught her at short fine leg. With this feat, Mandhana surpassed Harmanpreet Kaur’s previous record of a 100-ball century against South Africa in Bengaluru last year.

Mandhana’s innings now ranks as the joint-seventh fastest ODI hundred in women’s cricket, equaling former England skipper Charlotte Edwards’ record from 2012.

This century marked Mandhana’s 10th in ODIs, placing her joint-third on the all-time list of most centuries in women’s ODIs alongside England’s Tammy Beaumont. The list is led by Australia’s Meg Lanning with 15 centuries, followed by New Zealand’s Suzie Bates with 13.

Mandhana’s record-breaking performance not only delighted her fans but also cemented her status as one of the premier batters in women’s cricket.
